The Effects of Prophylactic Limited Palmar Fasciectomy on Surgical Outcomes and Scarring
Research is instrumental for improving medical care and the patient experience. Finding new surgical techniques can create better outcomes and minimize recovery time and complications for patients. Some patients undergoing trigger finger surgery with a pre-existing Dupuytren's cord may develop a thickened surgical scar after surgery, which can cause discomfort, difficulty with moving or using, and other complications in the affected finger(s) or hand. Investigate the topical use of almond oil, almond oil augmented with 0.5% vitamin E, 0.025% tretinoin oil augmented with castor oil on the appearance of facial fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, hydration, trans-epidermal water loss, and sebum excretion rate.

The Effects of Tranexamic Acid on Joint Inflammation and Cartilage Health in Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injured Patients
Patients who tear their ACL are at high risk for developing arthritis (post-traumatic osteoarthritis-PTOA) just 10 years later. Joint bleeding and inflammation contribute to deterioration of joint health. This study will determine whether treatment with Tranexamic Acid (TXA), an FDA approved medication that reduces bleeding right after ACL injury and reconstructive surgery reduces inflammation and improves joint health as a new strategy to prevent or delay the onset of PTOA.

The Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) Connection Registry
The Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) Connection Registry is a global, non-interventional, voluntary database that captures demographic and disease data directly from FOP patients and their caregivers via a secure, web-based patient portal. A physician portal (in development) will allow physicians to enter clinical data about their patients. The objectives are to organize the international FOP community for participation in clinical trials; to enable FOP patients worldwide to report data in a shared forum; to improve the collective understanding of FOP natural history; and to advance the understanding of FOP treatment outcomes.

While the HOP-STEP (Healthy Outcomes in Pregnancy with SLE Through Education of Providers) program has been demonstrated to be effective in improving provider confidence, increasing contraception documentation, and facilitating equitable pregnancy planning care in a single sub-specialty clinic here at Duke, the delivery of HOP-STEP may need to be changed to increase its fit with the local context at the University of Chicago Medical Center (UCMC) and subsequent locations. Diminished muscle strength is a common symptom associated with the onset of knee osteoarthritis. The goal of this observational study is to learn about functional and patient reported outcomes in patient undergoing total wrist replacement with the KinematX total wrist replacement study. The Myelin Disorders Biorepository Project (MDBP) seeks to collect and analyze clinical data and biological samples from leukodystrophy patients worldwide to support ongoing and future research projects. The MDBP is one of the world's largest leukodystrophy biorepositories, having enrolled nearly 2,000 affected individuals since it was launched over a decade ago.
