The purpose of this study is to understand variation in the symptoms of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis using simple, scalable smartphone-based measurements. This study uses an iPhone app to record these symptoms through questionnaires and sensors.
The overarching goal of this study is to develop a direct-to-patient screening approach that will improve early Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) detection in patients with psoriasis. Previously developed screening questionnaires were intended for use in the setting of a doctor's office to assist providers with referral decisions. However, these screening questionnaires are infrequently used in routine practice because of limitations with time and resources. The study will aim to develop a practical screening strategy that does not require involvement from dermatologists (or other non-rheumatology providers) and can systematically reach a ...
Working in partnership with Montefiore-Einstein's Department of Translational Psychiatry, the study team investigators have designed a prospective randomized clinical trial (2:1) study for 45 AIS patients (10-19 yrs.). This protocol includes a baseline assessment of mental health, pain, and function in AIS patients utilizing validated patient reported outcome measures. The investigators will implement and test a structured perioperative psychological intervention program, based on the Aim to Decrease Anxiety and Pain Treatment (ADAPT), which was developed based on evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) protocols for the ...
The purpose of this research study is to build and maintain a registry of people with interstitial lung disease (ILD). Medical information collected for this registry may be used to advance ILD and pulmonary research and improve patient care. This is an observational registry. Participants will not receive any investigational treatments or investigational drugs as part of their participation in this registry.
The overarching aim of this project is to modulate the pulse-width during stimulation of pedicle screws and record the response thresholds associated with each PWM setting. During this initial phase of the investigation, no further data will be collected.
The objective of this prospective study is to demonstrate accuracy of a limp detection model using a healthcare provider assessment as the non-reference standard.
The goal of this study is to determine the safety and tolerability of orally taken probiotic (R-2487) in patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Patients will take an oral dosage of probiotic (R-2487) and physicians will assess and measure their Rheumatoid Arthritis. Blood and fecal evaluations of inflammation and assessment of probiotic (R-2487) on fecal level will also be measured.
The purpose of this trial is to determine if radiofrequency ablation plus steroid perineural injections at the knee or hip provide longer pain relief and better function to patients than the current standard of care, perineural steroid injections alone. This pilot study is a prospective two arm randomized trail, all participants will be recruited from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) outpatient orthopedic clinic. 40 participants (20 hip and 20 knee OA) will be enrolled into the standard of care arm (treated with steroid injections alone) and 40 participants (20 hip and 20 knee OA) will be enrolled into the...
The goal of this study is to investigate if a timed release steroid injection may be beneficial in treating carpometacarpal (CMC) joint (thumb) osteoarthritis. The main questions to be answered are: 1. does the steroid injection substantially reduce pain in the thumb 2. does the steroid injection help to increase thumb function Participants will be asked to undergo a thumb CMC joint injection and to attend follow up visits to assess pain and thumb function.
The 2021 ACR RA treatment guideline, based on widely acknowledged low to moderate quality evidence, recommends switching to a non-tumor necrosis factor (TNFi) biologic (choose among existing medications, currently, rituximab, abatacept, tocilizumab, or sarilumab) or a targeted synthetic DMARD arm (tsDMARD; choose among existing medications, currently, tofacitinib, baricitinib, upadacitinib) in patients with active RA despite the use of a TNFi-biologic. In practice, most patients receive another TNFi-biologic, i.e., a second TNFi-biologic first. This is not based on solid evidence, but on arbitrary algorithms often proposed by health...
