The purpose of this study is to determine if music therapy interventions as adjunct to standard surgical care reduces pre- and post-operative pain and anxiety in patients undergoing total shoulder arthroplasty as compared with patients who receive standard of care without music therapy.
Myalgic encephalomyelitis/Chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), otherwise known as Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) or myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), is an under-recognized disorder whose cause is not yet understood. Suggested theories behind the pathophysiology of this condition include autoimmune causes, an inciting viral illness, and a dysfunctional autonomic nervous system caused by a small fiber polyneuropathy. Symptoms include fatigue, cognitive impairments, gastrointestinal changes, exertional dyspnea, and post-exertional malaise. The latter two symptoms are caused in part by abnormal cardiopulmonary hemodynamics during exercise...
This study is a prospective, randomized trial to compare patient outcomes of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for the treatment of medial compartment osteoarthritis.
This comparative treatment study aims to challenge a current clinical practice. Specifically, whether the use of ultrasound-guided peripheral intravenous catheter insertion results in lower post insertion failure rates with longer utility time compared to peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVC) inserted in the standard manner during the emergency department (ED), observation and in-patient stay. There are two secondary aims to the study: a) determining if ultrasound-guided peripheral intravenous catheter insertion results in lower post removal complication rates compared to PIVCs inserted in the standard manner; and b) determining if...
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune, inflammatory disease and musculoskeletal pain is one of the most common symptoms. This study will investigate whether transcutaneous stimulation of the vagus nerve will decrease lupus musculoskeletal pain. This study will additionally investigate the biologic effects of vagus nerve stimulation on inflammation. It will be the first clinical study using one of the body's own pathways of modulating the immune system and inflammatory response, the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway, in SLE.
Veterans who have responded well to Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA), a form of auricular acupuncture, in routine clinical practice will be invited to receive education to insert the needles themselves at home. A 3D-printed wearable prosthetic will also be explored as a means to facilitate needle placement. Primary end-points will include whether adverse events occur over a six-month period and whether the aforementioned prosthesis significantly facilitates needle placement in terms of subjective ease of administration.
To evaluate the fusion status of the hindfoot bones after receiving the ViviGen graft, an FDA approved cellular bone matrix. This is used in a population indicated for hindfoot arthrodesis as an alternative to an autograft.
This study is in response to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) call to all manufacturers with 510(k) clearance for metal-on-metal (MoM) total hip arthroplasty (THA) devices to conduct postmarket surveillance studies. MicroPort has various acetabular shells, acetabular liners, fixation screws, femoral heads, femoral stems, modular necks, and proximal bodies currently cleared for MoM indications. Together these components comprise the Wright Medical Technology (WMT) MoM THA System. The primary objective of the study is to determine the incidence of adverse local tissue reactions (ALTR) in each THA implanted with the WMT MoM THA ...
This is an open label study of Ampligen in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome.
The purpose of this study is to allow patients to undergo surgery with the SR™ MCP (Metacarpophalangeal) Implants for finger arthritis. This is NOT a research study, but rather, a requirement by the FDA for humanitarian use of device.
