The objective of this study is to evaluate patient perspective on telemedicine used in 3 week post operative visits for knee and hip arthroplasty. It is hypothesized that patient satisfaction with telemedicine follow-up is equal to patient satisfaction with in-office followup. Patient satisfaction will be assessed at the 3-week and 9-week post-operative timepoints.
Boston Children's Hospital resources include SimulConsult which is a decision support tool available for use of BCH provider through the library portal. It is offered along other resources on that webpage (UpToDate, Micromedex, and VisualDx). See addendum 1. Recently, a pediatric rheumatology arm was added to the expertise of SimulConsult, guided by our co-PI, Dr. Robert Sundel. As this tool is being offered and used, the investigators would like to assess metric of performance of this tool in enhancing participant trainees knowledge about the work up of patients with a potential rheumatologic disorder. The purpose of this study is to compare two different exercise programs to see if there are differences after exercise in fibromyalgia (FM) symptoms and responses from the immune system.
This study is a multi-center randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effects of using low-dose prednisone as compared to stopping prednisone treatment entirely. Participants will be randomized 1:1 to taper their prednisone dose down to 5 mg/day or to 0 mg/day for the duration of the study (approximately six months) or until a study endpoint.
This is a randomized controlled trial in patients with a diagnosis of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA; Wegener's)that are in remission to evaluate the effects of using low-dose glucocorticoids ( 5 mg/day of prednisone) as compared to stopping glucocorticoid treatment entirely (0 mg/day of prednisone)on rates of disease relapse/disease flares. This study is a novel approach to conducting a randomized clinical trial in the community setting. This study is being conducted in parallel with a similar study at established vasculitis institutions. This study will have a patient centric approach to research in that subjects will be recruited...
The Chest Wall and Spine Deformity Registry is a tool designed to assist spine surgeons to efficiently identify and track patients with chest wall and spinal disorders.
This study plans to learn more about the relationship between systemic autoimmune disease, such as inflammatory bowel disease and ankylosing spondyloarthritis, bacteria in the colon, and the changes in colon tissue.
This is a single-center prospective randomized investigation of patients undergoing surgical arthrodesis for single or multi-level cervical disease, resulting in cervical radiculopathy. Patients indicated for surgery for cervical degenerative disease (CDD) will be screened for yellow flags using validated tools to assess pain. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) will be used to modify yellow flags in spine patients. All patients at risk will be stratified by risk rating and randomly assigned to 2 groups; sham treatment (N=20) or CBT (N=20). The goal of this study is to unmask the relationship between psychological distress and clinical ...
The purpose of this study is to assess the course of hip weakness after LLIF or ALIF procedures. These outcomes include measures of hip strength using a dynamometer, which is a device used to measure muscle strength. While it is known that people experience temporary hip and leg weakness after an LLIF or ALIF, the exact timing of when hip and leg strength is regained after an LLIF or ALIF is not known.
The purpose of this study is to compare the clinical and functional outcomes of patients with mild to moderate arthroscopically confirmed osteoarthritis between the following two groups: 1. Partial fat pad harvest with Adipose-Derived Stem Cell (ADSC) transplantation with standard arthroscopic treatment consisting of: partial meniscectomy, cartilage stabilization, loose body removal and selective synovectomy. 2. Standard arthroscopic treatment (above) with out cell transplant.
