The purpose of this study is to determine whether transcutaneous electrical acustimulation (TEA) alters systemic sclerosis (SSc)-related colonic and anorectal physiology by enhancing autonomic nervous system (ANS) function. The study will examine the effects of TEA on slow colonic transit (SCT) and rectal hyposensitivity (RH), to examine whether TEA improves autonomic dysfunction and modulates inflammatory pathways.
In vivo knee kinematics will be assessed for 20 subjects that have been implanted with either a MicroPort Medial Pivot or DePuy Attune posterior cruciate retaining (PCR) total knee arthroplasty (TKA) by Dr. Russell Nevins of Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center [this is the location from which participants will be recruited].
Study objectives include assessing the use of Irrisept irrigation solution in lumbar spinal fusion procedures and effect on clinical and patient reported outcome measures. This includes assessing postoperative SSI as well as fusion rates in addition to patient reported outcome measures.
The goal of this study is to learn about the effect of video-game based rehabilitation exercise for patients with knee osteoarthritis. The main question the study aims to answer is: do patients who exercise with the game have better functional outcomes and engagement compared to patients who do conventional exercise? Participants will complete 10 weeks of physical therapy exercise sessions that focus on quadriceps strengthening. Two sessions per week will be conducted in the clinic, and one session will be conducted at home each week. The interventional group will conduct all exercises using the KneeBRIGHT EMG sensors and game ...
The purpose of this study is to assess the long-term safety and tolerability of voclosporin for up to an additional 12 months following completion of treatment in the AUR-VCS-2020-03 study (VOCAL) in adolescents with active lupus nephritis.
Lumbosacral spinal stenosis (LSS) is a leading cause of limited mobility, reduced independence, and poor health outcomes in older adults, and is very common in older adult Veterans. Several years ago, major research studies indicated that surgery for LSS was more effective than usual (medical) management. Nonetheless, there are many patients for whom surgery is not the ideal therapy. There have been reports that modifications in daily activities including temporary use of a modified rolling walker and changes in sleep positioning may help relieve LSS. The investigators have assembled a VA team to study this carefully. The...
Fibromyalgia is a debilitating chronic pain disorder. Based on prior research with MDMA, it can be hypothesized MDMA-assisted therapy in fibromyalgia patients may increase the range of positive emotions, interpersonal trust, and heighten the state of empathic rapport that can lead to an enhanced patient-clinician interaction and to initiate reattribution processes targeting dysfunctional thoughts towards pain. Therapeutic alliance, i.e. a positive patient-clinician relationship, is already acknowledged as an essential component for MDMA-assisted therapy. Despite its importance, the patient-clinician interaction and the neuroscience...
Historically, participation in clinical trials has been highly skewed towards specific demographic groups. However, research identifying which trial attributes impact participation, in either positive or negative ways, is limited. This study invites participants to record a wide range of data on their clinical trial experience, with the goal being to identify factors which persistently limit patients' ability to participate in, or complete, a trial in which they were initially interested. This data will be analyzed through a range of demographic lenses, in hopes of discovering patterns which might improve the experience of future...
The study is a multicentered, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study conducted on the unilateral knee of 120 patients. The study compares the effectiveness of an injection of a mesenchymal stem cell preparation from autologous bone marrow aspirate (BMA) to a corticosteroid control for knee osteoarthritis. WOMAC, VAS pain scores, and MRI will be used for assessment. The study will be conducted at 3 sites in the United States.
This research will evaluate a multifaceted patient-centered intervention in a sample of socioeconomically disadvantaged Hispanic adults with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) that capitalizes on a partnership between the extended rheumatology healthcare team and each patient in order to promote understanding, uptake and adherence to the principles of treat-to-target strategy. The primary hypothesis of this study is that the addition of a multifaceted intervention incorporating integrated multidisciplinary rheumatologic care, nurse-directed self-management education and supportive follow-up, and technology-based at home RA symptom monitoring...
