Evaluation of safety, tolerability and superiority of RK-01, a valsartan plus celecoxib dual add-on to metformin-HCL XR over metformin in newly diagnosed and obese adult type 2 diabetes patients with high blood pressure, arthritis and inadequate glycemic control with metformin monotherapy, diet and exercise over 26 weeks of treatment. Objective: To assess effect of RK-01 on HbA1c levels, beta cell function and insulin resistance with co-administration of valsartan, celecoxib and metformin-HCl XR relative to metformin monotherapy. Hypothesis: After 26 weeks of treatment with valsartan, celecoxib and metformin-HCl XR ...
The aim of this study is to characterize the efficacy of percutaneous tenotomy (PUT) using TENEX®, a device used for the treatment of various tendinopathies. In this study an ultrasound (US) is performed to guide the partial release of gluteus medius and minimus and Iliotibial band tendons in patients diagnosed with refractory Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS) vs control. The study team hypothesizes that PUT can improve the pain level and function for individuals suffering with GTPS. The study will assess walking, standing, and side-lying tolerance, as well as medication utilization. The investigator team predicts that this...
Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (VEDS) is caused by pathogenic variants of the COL3A1 gene, resulting abnormal Type III collagen protein. This impacts the body's connective tissue and makes people with VEDS at high risk of spontaneous aortic and arterial rupture, pneumothorax, and hollow organ perforation across the age spectrum. Given this risk and high potential for lethality, VEDS is considered the most severe type of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. In addition, many patients experience chronic pain and fatigue, sleep disturbances, and mental health challenges. As is the case for many patients with chronic illness, stress, anxiety, and ...
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if growth hormone injections can be used to treat osteoarthritis (OA) in the knee. Human studies have shown that repeated injections of human growth hormone leads to the production of articular chondrocytes, which are the cells that make up the cartilage in the knee joint. Restoring cartilage in the knee can alleviate pain, improve function, and postpone the need for a joint replacement procedure. The main questions the study aims to answer are: - Do growth hormone injections in the knee joint stimulate cartilage growth? - Do the injections lower pain and stiffness in the...
The purpose of this study is to perform a prospective randomized trial among female patients undergoing reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) to determine if a larger glenosphere allows greater range of motion without an impact on complications.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether transcutaneous electrical acustimulation (TEA) alters systemic sclerosis (SSc)-related colonic and anorectal physiology by enhancing autonomic nervous system (ANS) function. The study will examine the effects of TEA on slow colonic transit (SCT) and rectal hyposensitivity (RH), to examine whether TEA improves autonomic dysfunction and modulates inflammatory pathways.
In vivo knee kinematics will be assessed for 20 subjects that have been implanted with either a MicroPort Medial Pivot or DePuy Attune posterior cruciate retaining (PCR) total knee arthroplasty (TKA) by Dr. Russell Nevins of Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center [this is the location from which participants will be recruited].
The goal of this study is to learn about the effect of video-game based rehabilitation exercise for patients with knee osteoarthritis. The main question the study aims to answer is: do patients who exercise with the game have better functional outcomes and engagement compared to patients who do conventional exercise? Participants will complete 10 weeks of physical therapy exercise sessions that focus on quadriceps strengthening. Two sessions per week will be conducted in the clinic, and one session will be conducted at home each week. The interventional group will conduct all exercises using the KneeBRIGHT EMG sensors and game ...
The purpose of this study is to assess the long-term safety and tolerability of voclosporin for up to an additional 12 months following completion of treatment in the AUR-VCS-2020-03 study (VOCAL) in adolescents with active lupus nephritis.
Lumbosacral spinal stenosis (LSS) is a leading cause of limited mobility, reduced independence, and poor health outcomes in older adults, and is very common in older adult Veterans. Several years ago, major research studies indicated that surgery for LSS was more effective than usual (medical) management. Nonetheless, there are many patients for whom surgery is not the ideal therapy. There have been reports that modifications in daily activities including temporary use of a modified rolling walker and changes in sleep positioning may help relieve LSS. The investigators have assembled a VA team to study this carefully. The...
